My favorite Hawkeye moment was when I was about 13 or so. It was the Iowa/Northwestern game at Kinnick – I’m sure it was one of the coldest games on record. My dad tried his best to keep me warm, but it was impossible. I finally told him I wanted to walk over to Carver to my cousin Jerry’s (Strom) office. When I got to Carver the women’s basketball team was shooting around. I sat and watched for a very long time until one of them asked me if I wanted to shoot a little. I loved basketball so I jumped right in. I have no idea who she was, but she gave me some incredible tips that day that took me from a decent player to a pretty great one the next year. The influence that one generous Iowa women’s basketball player had that day might just have altered the course of my life. -Michelle Bennett

BEHIND THE DESIGN
The inspiration for Organic Herky came from my life and interests. I am a vegetarian and a backyard organic gardener. Iowa’s rich black soil is one of the best things about living here. I’m a member of New Pioneer Co-op in Iowa City and also love attending local farmer’s markets. This Herky celebrates Iowa’s organic farmers and gardeners. -Jane Esch-Woodhouse
