HAWKEYE MOMENT

Our best Hawkeye Moment is spotting Hawkeyes where ever we go around the world and realizing the impact this great University has made.

about the artist

Mei-Ling is an artist, designer, photographer, videographer, gardener, mother, and plant-animal-people-lover. Her philosophy is of continuous creation, evolution, growth, work and positivity in all aspects of life. She has enjoyed working on installations, paintings, videos, albums, and magazines. She is currently the photographer/designer/videographer for the University of Iowa College of Education.

BEHIND THE DESIGN

Just like Iowa’s education building, Lindquist Herky is named after E. F. Lindquist, an educational leader, scholar, inventor, and teacher who created the Iowa Academic Meet in 1929, the catalyst for the development of the world-renowned Iowa Testing Programs. Lindquist revolutionized test scoring by inventing the first optical scanner in the early 1950s, allowing tests to be accurately scored by high-speed equipment rather than by hand. Decode the number sequence on the back of this Herky’s back for a secret message!
